When we made the decision to put an addition on our home to accommodate my wife's parents, the biggest question was who would be the best person to do the job. I was no stranger to the process, as my dad had put additions on to three of the houses we owned. What we did not want was a house that looked as if it had gone through the traditional New England expansion project, a series of disjointed additions. We were proud of the look of our existing home and wanted to have the addition complement the existing structure in a seamless fashion. The goal was to make it look as if the finished product was the original design. We contacted Bill Gagne of Northwind Construction, since he had done such a great job with the initial construction. He spent the time discussing options and introduced us to Lisa Melvin, an architect who worked tirelessly to get us a plan that we were delighted with. Once the plans were Finalized, Bill gave us a price and stuck to it. The results were better than our expectations, and we are delighted with the Final product. Many of our friends that have visited have remarked that it does not look like an addition, and were curious where the original house ended and the addition began. Over the course of the project, Bill was constantly on-site, both working and managing the sub-contractors. His ability to manage the project which was done over a rather severe winter was excellent. Interruptions to our daily life were minimal, even when it was time to break through into the existing structure. The personnel that were involved in the project from Northwind Construction were wonderful, especially Keith who seemed to know how to do everything, and do everything with pride. If you are looking for a contractor that keeps his word, knows his craft, doesn't cut corners, and creates a product that you will be proud of, Northwind Construction is the best choice you can make. I heartily recommend them to anyone contemplating either new construction or incremental enhancements to existing properties. I found Bill to be a man of character. That is rare in these days, when most contractors want to cut corners to make a buck instead of leaving the homeowner with something that will stand the test of time and reflect a price of ownership.
